Overview

The original concept and brief were detailed by Studio Egret West and novated to Vision to enhance and format technically.  The vision created a scale model which depicted the complete drum area, pod areas and corridor areas.  From the model, 3D images were then formatted and spun to enable taking off the technical sizes and structural connotations.  A material register was created for signing off by the client and a design and structural register was created, also for signing off.  The programme for this project was extremely difficult as all aspects of this job were completely bespoke and it was necessary to make sure all procurement was brought to every project meeting and discussed in length.  In some instances, we recommended changing slightly the products to enable us to meet a key programme date.  This did not change the overall look, however, was necessary.  Under the M&E, we designed this throughout and made sure air handling units and heater battery units were ordered well in advance to enable the meeting of key dates necessary.

The drum wall itself presented a real challenge, each part of the drum wall on four planes was angled or curved and with the angled-shaped openings this also proved technically very difficult to achieve.  All balustrading was cut to the ramps which were angled and curved also, and all the rooms leading off of the ramps had curved and angled walls, making finishes very difficult.
